Accreditation is a statement from an accreditation body – an independent third-party entity – declaring that specified requirements related to conformity assessment bodies have been met and that the accredited body is competent to perform certain functions.Put another way, accreditation is the process of evaluating the competence of a conformity assessment body.

This Directory provides information on the U.S.-based accreditation bodies that are members of major multilateral fora and arrangements such as the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).IAF Members accredit certifiers of products, personnel, and management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, etc.). ILAC members accredit laboratories.

This Directory also provides links to the lists of conformity assessment bodies accredited byeach accreditation body.
