The process for development of new Korean Industrial Standards (KS) begins with a standard basic plan, or proposal from the stakeholders to KATS. The proposal is put forward for discussion among Korean government agencies and other stakeholders, and discussed at a public hearing conducted by the Korea Industrial Standards Commission (KISC – an internal committee of KATS). Once the proposal is approved by KISC, the relevant KATS working group and subcommittees prepare the draft KS. Finally, the draft standard is approved as a KS. The diagram below shows the procedure:
Each KS is reviewed every 5 years to determine if revision or withdrawal is needed. Periodically, KATS reviews standards more frequently in order to ensure harmonization with international standards or facilitate the development of new technologies.
